Join us as we host in collaboration with the African Diaspora International Film Festival, Parallel Film Collective and Lesole’s Dance Project, the African Cypher. The film follows the life of several dancers from South Africa as you are taken into their daily lives and struggles as artists and as men.

“Street dance in South Africa is a complex, convoluted underworld; that like most sub-cultures, exist as a sum of its participants.
In our townships, ghettos and suburbs exist a group of individuals who form part dance crew – part group therapy. Whether it is Isipantsula, B-boying, Krump or Sbhujwa for many of the dancers the situation in their communities is a struggle for purpose, identity and the confidence. Whatever this dance thing is. It is beautiful, part circus / part soul. No matter the context or style. We all ultimately dance for an audience of one.”
